Time to Finish Chapter 14 Assignments
Hiroshima Primary Source Assignment (groups of 1-4)
(First half of class)
Rest of class; first part of … Dunkirk
We will watch Dunkirk over a few class periods
The first video explains the complex timeline of three intersecting perspectives:
1. "The Mole" depicts the soldiers and officers on the beach at Dunkirk. The Mole is a man-made jetty sticking out into the harbour where only one large ship at a time can tie up (hence the need for smaller boats and ships to get close to the beach and ferry soldiers out to the big destroyers and other large transport ships). This takes place over a week.
2. "The sea" depicts a private boat owner, his son, and a family friend coming from England to rescue men at Dunkirk. This takes place over a day.
3. "The Air" depicts three RAF (Royal Air Force) Spitfire fighter pilots battling Luftwaffe (German Air Force) fighters and dive bombers who are attacking allied forces on land and sea. This takes place over an hour.
All timelines come together at the conclusion of the film.
